Illustrating the feeling of what makes a happy home. It is not perfection, but rather the relationship of the people in it. Warm colors and bright, natural sunlight illuminate the room, and the abundance of plants breathes life into it. The room itself tells a story of a moment in time that was stopped: steaming hot bowls of spaghetti on the table, an open cabinet, a recently played guitar. The IV on the wall begs the question of who these young people are, but despite the insecurity of a health condition, they are relaxed and happy. But there is a tension that knows that this feeling is fleeting - but that is the beauty in life. Every stage is temporary.

Blocking

I explored a new style of painting to make my work crisper with harder edges, defined by the lasso instead of a brush. I blocked out the scene with basic, muted colors, using a max. of 3 values in each object to portray depth.

Color

Defining the main light source and playing with the position of the characters. The focal point should be within the triangle created by the two cahracters and the window. The main light source is the bright, natural sunlight.

Color Scheme

I knew early on that the sunlight would be the main light source, but the warm yellows weren't quite working. I explored warmer red-tones, and also tried a bluer hue. The cooler tones were calmer and more relaxed, and the red-orange hue was too saturated and alarming. I opted for an orange-hued balance with warm shadows.
