We Grew Apart in Silence

We grew apart in silence And let life deal the hand That would eventually murder Whatever life we had. We hoped and prayed each evening That the past would win the race. Hoping that tomorrow, We would be dealt an ace. We placed our bets in darkness When all was standing still. We hoped that time would help us And focused all our will. We waited as life passed us by and bye again. Blind to what surrounds us, and to what could have been. Every evening we come here And try returning what we lost. We always learn the same old lesson At a greater cost.
